It is believed by some to be a dormant organ that can be awakened to enable “telepathic” communication and an awareness of things not perceived by the natural senses.

In the physical body the eye views objects upside down. It sends the image of what it observes to the brain which interprets the image and makes it appear right side-up to us. But the human body has another physical eye which ’sees’ things, whose function has long been recognized by humanity. It is called the ‘Third Eye’ and like an eye, needs to be “opened”. It is long thought to have mystical powers. Many consider it the Spiritual Third Eye, our Inner Vision.

When the pineal gland awakens one feels a pressure at the base of the brain. This pressure will often be experienced when connecting to higher frequency. A head injury can also activate the Third Eye (Pineal Gland). Development of psychic talents has been closely associated with this organ of higher vision.

To activate the ‘third eye’ and perceive higher dimensions, the pineal and pituitary glands must vibrate in unison, which is achieved through specific meditation and relaxation techniques. When the right relationship is established between personality, operating through the body, and the soul, operating through the pineal gland, a magnetic field is created. The negative and positive forces interact and become strong enough to create a phenomenon known as the ‘light in the head.’

The first step in directing the energies in your inner system to opening the third eye, is visualization exercises. By focusing your mind on the midway point between the pineal gland and the pituitary, a magnetic field is created around the pineal gland. Your creative imagination will then visualize something and the mind’s thoughts which are energy, will give life and direction to what you visualize.

The third eye is an organ of the light body or energy body. When the third eye is opened it has access to the layers or dimensions of the soul. By the soul we mean the memories of the light or energy being within us. These memories contain the past, future and present dimensions of what is normally defined as time. The third eye is the gateway or portal to the dimensionality of space which may be described as space or time. You can enter through a portal to another dimension in order to travel. Many people have experienced this partially via dreams and visions.

Here is an exercise you can try.

Sit quietly clear your mind of diversions and clutter take a few slow deep breaths and start to focus on the screen in your mind.

Colours should start to come into view. Keep watching the colours relax and breathe deeply and slowly. The colours will now turn into a shape that you may or may not recognize.

If you do not see anything this could be because you are not relaxed or you are nervous. If this happens just go back and try again a little later in the day. Once you have connected with your third eye you will have a sense of floating in a sea of energy. When the third eye opens, the mind is flooded with light, insights, and inspiration. This is a very common meditation experience. It can happen gradually over time, or quite suddenly. If the third eye opens wide and it’s sudden, it usually occurs for a period of time, and then re-calibrates to a new aperture setting that is more open than before, but not wide open continuously.

Beginning mediators report all kinds of phenomenon, which aren’t really phenomenon, but rather the first opening of the inner senses: Visions, profound feelings and the smelling of scents that are not physically present.

From your own perspective, you need to develop an awareness of how you receive messages. Take notice of it, in the same way that you would start to notice just how many people are riding a pushbike around if had just purchased one of your own.

Ask yourself: What does it feel like? How is the information received? Is there a specific part of you that is sensitive to  the transmission? How do you decide whether this is actually a message? Is there a pattern to it? Become familiar with the process and trust it. As your confidence in your ability to receive psychic energy increases, establish experiments for yourself. You might, for example, wish to put out a casual thought for someone to contact you. When it happens, keep a record and be aware of how you felt at the time. Become more aware of your dreams and learn how to distinguish between those which are a garbled mixture of daily issues and dreams which feel like there might be something more to them. If the dreams come true, note how often.

Practice listening silently, to see if you can pick up the thoughts of someone who is in near proximity to you. It’s best to try it with someone well known, such as a friend, lover or relative. Can you hear the words, or gain an impression of what they are holding in their imagination? Learning a skill like this requires practice and improvement – like learning a musical instrument or driving a car. It gets easier with practice. You need to be a relaxed and objective observer, who is simply becoming aware of what is out there – what you received and what you can transmit.

Some Techniques

Try pausing before you take action. For example, if the phone rings, pause for a few seconds before answering and see if you can tell who is on the line. Do the same thing when someone knocks at your door, or in the work environment. But you need to distinguish between commonsense intuition or expectation and this ability. When you see people from a distance, try and tell what their mood is or get an overall impression of what may preoccupying their thoughts. Let your body and mind become a sort of antenna, receiving psychic energy from the universe.

Touch objects that belong to someone you know and see whether you sense any impressions from that person. If you’re really keen, you may even wish to work with a known psychic whose skills are more developed and who can teach you what they know. But you will need to trust this person.

Another way to enhance your psychic talent is to work with the psychic energy, allowing yourself to receive messages. If you’re unsure of the meaning, ask searching questions until what you are receiving comes in more distinctly. This is very effective when you are working in healing methods such as Reiki. When the information is correct, try to determine how it was correct, how that felt before and during the impressions. Was it a strong feeling? Was it more subtle? What part of your body did the information come through? Remember how it felt so that you can have greater understanding in the future when messages come through. Also if it felt off, or there was any tension. Why does it feel that way? What adjustment needs to be made, or is this a warning of something for you or the person?

When you are walking in the street or you get an impression about changing directions, or a thought of caution about something small, like locking your keys in the car. Pay attention to these little promptings. If you are open to this, you get prompting very frequently throughout the day. These are all little flashes of your psychic ability. The more that you tune in, the more clearer your impressions and flashes will become.

The bottom line is, that anyone who has a desire to awaken their psychic abilities should know that with the right kind of help, it is quite within reach.

We all have them to a lesser or greater degree, because the study of quantum physics has shown that we are all connected in the universe. An interesting observation was made in the film “What the Bleep Do We Know” – that the very thing (our minds) that perceives the tangible world around us, is itself intangible. The meaning behind this lies in the way our thinking conscious mind operates. It is not the “brain flesh” that does the thinking, but the hologram inside (and around) our skull, that the brain produces.

Understanding this premise helps us to understand how psychic abilities are possible. All the universe consists of atoms and electrons which modern discoveries tell us “pop in and out of existence”. In other words, the universe is fluid in time and space – and the hologram of our thinking self is but another manifestation of this process. Thus, we are all connected.

Other studies have shown that the brain’s hologram is quite powerful. Scientists once stood outside the room of a dying woman who was hooked up to their gadgets that measure brain activity. Thus, we are all connected in the universe.

The thing that distinguishes the psychic, is their ability to be more aware of this connection than the rest of us. The question then remains: Can “the rest of us” realize the same awareness? Can anyone become psychic?

Awakening psychic abilities could be likened to tuning a TV or radio. Both these items need you to tune into a particular band or frequency to get the program that you want.
